What we do

Providing Solutions

We assist small and medium-sized cities and municipalities in preparing for crises linked to climate change and other challenges. Through tailored consulting services, we integrate cultural heritage protection with disaster risk reduction strategies. Our approach emphasizes:

  • Promoting Policies lead by and for Communities: Advocating for policies that prioritize human needs in urban regeneration, inspired by UKLAD methodologies.

  • Raising Awareness: Highlighting the role of cultural heritage (both tangible and intangible) in building resilience and improving disaster preparedness.

  • Community as primary actor: Providing communities with tools allowing them to lead processes of protection, preparedness, and recovery.

  • Combining Knowledge and Data: Integrating community insights, technical data, and heritage information to enhance risk preparedness.

Our commitment is to help communities face modern challenges by centering culture in resilience strategies.

Actionable Research in Architecture and Heritage Protection

Our research applies the UKLAD methodology to arid architecture, urban planning, and heritage protection. We focus on practical solutions for vulnerable situations by blending traditional knowledge with modern techniques. Our principles include:

  • Cultural and Anthropological Insights: Developing solutions rooted in the unique ways of life, micro-cultures, and environments of each community.

  • Valuing Ancestral Practices: Highlighting traditional, cost-effective practices that support the survival of people, flora, fauna and heritage.

  • Innovative Integration: Combining time-tested practices with contemporary research to develop sustainable solutions that address real needs identified on the ground, ensuring practical and adaptable outcomes for communities.

  • Resource Mapping: Identifying existing tools, knowledge and needs on the ground,  to support local communities, institutions and local actors.

  • Community-Centered Heritage: Documenting significant heritage assets as a foundation for resilience and adaptation.

This research empowers communities to protect their uklads and heritage and adapt to evolving climate.

Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building

We believe that exchanging knowledge is key to enhancing resilience and supporting urban regeneration. Our efforts focus on fostering collaboration between disciplines, particularly linking STEM fields with social sciences and traditional knowledge. We work on:

  • Building Trust and Communication: Promoting transparency and effective communication between stakeholders and local communities.

  • Sharing Experiences and Stories: Facilitating the exchange of real-world case studies to train people and showcase successful resilience strategies.

  • Mutual Learning: Encouraging a two-way exchange of knowledge, recognizing that arid regions possess valuable survival expertise that can benefit other parts of the world.

  • Supporting Local Initiatives: Assisting projects that align with our goals, ensuring capacity-building efforts have a meaningful impact.

Our aim is to create a network of informed and empowered communities ready to face global challenges together.

International Platform and Outreach

While we aspire to develop a comprehensive international platform in the future, we are currently laying the groundwork by sharing the UKLAD methodology and connecting with professionals, decision-makers, and communities. Our outreach efforts focus on:

  • Documenting Experiences: Collecting and sharing stories and past experiences to facilitate learning and inspiration.

  • Providing Access to Resources: Making tools, research, and existing knowledge more accessible to those who need them.

  • Fostering Collaboration: Encouraging knowledge exchange between communities and professionals to build a broader network of resilience.

  • Growing Together: Building partnerships and strengthening our outreach capabilities step-by-step to create a robust international platform.

We are committed to expanding our reach and sharing our knowledge to help communities build resilience and protect their heritage.
